1. Scrubs - Guy Love
THIS SONG IS BASICALLY ABOUT THEM. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY.
2. Men in Tights
Obligatory.
3. Tenacious D - Wonderboy
See track one commentary
SUPER CYBORG JESUS FROM THE FOURTH DIMENSION
4. Carly Simon - You're So Vain
IT'LL BE OKAY IF EVERYONE JUST DOES WHAT I TELL THEM TO. DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND I KNOW BEST?
You know, this is actually my Kirk song, but the day I make a Star Trek FST is the day I start running around in my Starfleet uniform. (Don't have one. Have a Darth Vader cape though.) I don't know why being a Trekkie is a bigger point of embarrassment for me over all the other stupid shit I do, but it is.
Anyway, to be relevant, Jesus Christ Nate. Shut up. I know you're basically God but just sit down over there. You're trying really hard, and it's adorable. But when Charles fucking Xavier tells you you might wanna tone down on the arrogant godmodding you should probably cut that shit out.
5.Tal Bachman - She's So High
For all the shit I give Nate, I actually like him. He's the only member of the Slim Summers family I find remotely tolerable at all. (X-men Evolution!Slim notwithstanding.) I even got attached enough to be upset at his stupid heroic death (which meant nothing).
And now he's back and he has a baby or some shit (thanks for that addition to the family tree) but he's back to being a stoic asshole. Oh Marvel, you so crazy.
WADE WILSON, NO RELATION TO SLADE WILSON
6. The Delgados - All You Need is Hate
This was how I won the west
Charity, a joke that friendly cities think that we believe
Or so it seems
We kicked and punched and stabbed to death
And everyone applauded my fine actions I was overcome
You ask me what I've seen
Hate is all I've seen
Deadpool was technically made in the 90s, which meant he ran on GRIMDARK and hate. He's also fairly cynical/realistic, which is a nice foil for when Nate is being an idealistic egotist. Deadpool's gone through a lot of shit. (Nate's gone through a lot of shit too, and we can have an angst off later. I mean he comes from the future where everyone hates each other and they all carry huge guns and he can't even see his feet half the time because he was drawn by Rob Liefeld.)
But he doesn't sit there and bitch about it like some child soldiers I can mention (CABLE = RAIDEN?), he's just kind of an ass to everyone.
7. Excel Girls - Love (Loyalty)
This morning I was pondering what it must be like living in Deadpool's head. My first thought was a terrible j-pop/DDR song. Then I thought "...no dude, there needs to be more sex and violence."
So I thought of Excel Saga. The lyrics are awesome, and you should totally watch this show because it's like dropping acid. They made the final episode purposefully so violent and disgusting that it could not be shown on Japanese TV.
...this made more sense in my head this morning when I hadn't slept for 48 hours.
CIVIL WAR/OH HAI I UPGRADED YOUR WADE
8. Say Hi to Your Mom - Your Brains vs. My Tractorbeam
And now our adrenaline's rushing
And you are my arch-nemesis
You're still mad that I copied your hairdo
I'm still hoping you won't notice
And you pawned off your decoder ring
And you wrote it out in invisible ink
But your brains are no match for my tractorbeam
But your brains are no match for my tractorbeam
I mean with Cable, it's not really ever a fight because he's a godmodding jerk, but I thought this song was a nice match for their relationship - slashy or otherwise.
9. Tenacious D - Karate
Nate betrayed me
And then he lied tried to hide
And I died deep inside
And you know the reason why.
10. Elliot Smith - Roman Candle
I want to hurt him
I want to hurt him
I want to hurt him
I want to give him pain
And make him feel this pretty burn
I started out going "...damn this doesn't work except for the "I WANNA HURT HIM, I WANNA GIVE HIM PAIN" because of the whole "OH HAI I UPGRADED YOUR WADE ENJOY THE PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA - IT'LL MAKE YOU BETTER~~~~~~" bit from Cable and the fall out.
Then I remembered the song is about abuse and Wade's dad was kind of an asshole. So it works both ways. Granted, Wade was kind of a horrible little shit, that probably provoked a lot of it, but abuse isn't something to make excuses for.
(I love that chapter because it starts out as a WACKY ROADTRIP TO INTERCOURSE, PENNSYLVANIA and ends with everyone just feeling really horrible about themselves and nothing is accomplished ever.)
"...FOR TWO PEOPLE WHO SAY THEY DON'T NEED EACH OTHER, BOTH OF US KEEP DOING A LOT OF STUPID THINGS TO TRY AND STAY TOGETHER."
11. The Dan Band - Total Eclipse of the Heart

I used the Dan Band cover because it's more MANRY.
12. Andrew Gold - Thank You For Being a Friend
Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
your heart is true you're a pal and a confidant
I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see, the biggest gift would be from me
and the card attached would say,
Thank you for being a friend
